HD INTERVIEW – Chris PresleyMen Interview August 2, 2013 - 10:15 am
23 years old amateuer Bodybuilder
WHAT MISTAKES DID YOU MAKE AS A BEGINNER
AND HOW DIFFICULT IT WAS TO BEGIN?
C.P.:I made a lot of mistakes when I started my journey. That’s what you learn the most from. One of the
biggest mistakes I think I made was not keeping the muscle tensed throughout the movement and getting
the biggest contraction possible. For the first 5 or 6 years I was always about weight weight weight.
Not until I was in my early 20′s did I start learning how to take advantage of high volume and bigger/fuller
contractions. It wasn’t too hard for me to get started in bodybuilding. I played sports growing up and in high
school. Weight training went hand in hand with playing sports. I got stronger, faster, could jump higher, and
most of all, I wanted to out lift my friends.
At a very young age I could remember being interested in bodybuilding. In kindergarten we had a project to
make a book about what you like and who you are, etc. My book was filled with pictures of Arnold, Lou Ferrigno,
Franco Columbo, and Tom Platz. Still have that book to this day.
YOUR TIPS, HOW PEOPLE CAN STAY DEDICATED?
C.P.: Surround yourself with people who will support you on your journey to whatever fitness goal you may have.
Hang out with people that also dedicate their lives to being healthy and achieving perfection with their body.
It makes it easier to stick to. Remember why you started and how bad you want it. You’re out to prove people wrong.
You can do it. It’s up to you to show them.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
C.P.: I am most proud of my parents. Two people I look up to and motivate me every single day to do better and
achieve my goals one step at a time. I lost my Dad two years ago to MSA. It was a difficult part of my life.
One of my many goals has always been to win the Overall title here in my home state of Utah. The following March,
in 2012 after my Dad passed away being in June 2011, I competed and put everything I had into it to win the Overall
title here in Utah.
I went on to compete at The Emerald Cup and took 2nd in the heavyweight class. All that hard work and sacrifice was
definitely for him. My Dad was, and still is, my biggest inspiration.
DO YOU PREFER TO BULK AND CUT OR STAY LEAN ALL YEAR ROUND?
C.P.: I like to stay on the leaner side year round. I like to be able to see my abs. I work out almost everyday.
I don’t like when they disappear. haha.
I like to put on lean too and when I’m leaner year round, you can visibly see the difference. Rather than it
hiding and you bringing it out when you cut down for a show.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE AND WHY?
C.P.: There are so many to choose from. I gotta go back to the basics and go with the squat. It’s overall
one of, if not the most challenging exercise there is out there. There are a ton of different variations of
the movement that are great exercises too.
They need to change the worldwide question when you meet a muscular guy, “How much do you bench?”
Asking how strong he is, they need to change it to “How much do you squat?” I would even be happy with,
how much do you deadlift. haha. Just not bench. Anyone can bench. Come on now.
ONE DAY IN YOUR LIFE!
HOW DOES YOUR NUTRITION LOOK LIKE WHEN YOU ARE CUTTING?
C.P.: Lean sources of meat, Lots of greens, eating every 2-3 hours, healthy fats, and on the lower
side of low glycemic carbs. I do well with lower carb, higher fat diets. I also like to carb cycle.
HOW DOES YOUR OFF DAY LOOK LIKE?
C.P.:I like to read. I stretch. Prep the meals for the next couple days. Email my clients and send off
new nutrition plans, workouts, and advice. I usually like to take a nap or two if I have the time.
WHO ARE YOUR IDOLS?
C.P.: Arnold is definitely one of my idols, but if we’re going with idols in general and not in the
fitness world. Again, I would have to go with my parents.
WHAT SUPPLEMENTS DO YOU USE?
C.P.: I started to get a lot more in to supplements a few years ago so I’m starting to take a lot.
I like it though, I can definitely tell a difference.
Whey Protein Powder
Green Coffee Extract
Flax seed oil
